Art and the Apocalypse: The Book of Revelation and Visual Exegesis

Friday 16 March 2018, 6.30-6.30pm

The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EJ

Natasha O’ Hear and Anthony O’Hear (daughter and father) are the winners of the ACE/Mercers’ Book Award, and will be giving a lecture that develops the themes of their winning book Picturing the Apocalypse. They will explore the interpretative power of visual images, through two case studies inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Rev. 6) and the Rider on the White Horse (Rev. 19). This will allow discussion both of the diverse approaches that exist within the visual history of Revelation, as well as of the notion of the artist as a potentially sophisticated biblical exegete.

Dr Natasha O’Hear is a Lecturer in Theology & Visual Art at ITIA, University of St Andrews. Anthony O’Hear is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Buckingham and Honorary Director of the Royal Institute of Philosophy.

Open to all. Tickets £12, or £10 A+C members and concessions. Wine served.
